Vidwan S. Seshagiri Rao is an "A Top" graded (bestowed by All India Radio) Carnatic Violin Vidwan, with over 50 years of concert experience both as an accompanying and solo artist.
He was born in a musical family in Bangalore to Smt. Saroja Bai and Sri H.S. Venkata Subba Rao, in the year 1944. He started learning violin at the age of 12, under the able guidance of his father. He gave his first concert at the Tyagaraja Aradhana celebrations in Malleswaram, Bangalore at the age of 14. Since then, he has been giving performances, both solo and as an accompanist, in a number of prestigious sabhas/venues across the country.
In a musical career spanning nearly 50 years, he has
accompanied several artistes of carnatic music, past and present with distinction.
He retired from All India Radio, Bangalore after serving the organization for over 28 years. He has participated in several Radio
Sangeeth Sammelans and National Programme of Music (AIR and Doordarshan) programmes,
both as a solo and as an accompanying violinist. He has trained several students in both Carnatic Violin and Vocal music.
